Marbella, Ojén and Monda
The west of the province has a different character — mountain lanes above Marbella, where a few kilometres take you from the concrete of the coast to the quiet of the Sierra Blanca. The loop runs through the inland villages of Monda and Ojén, with views alternating between the sea and the mountains. It isn't about extreme ramps but about a pleasant mountain rhythm and the contrast between the glitzy coast and the calm interior. Coffee on the square in Ojén with a Costa del Sol panorama is the reward.

Wind, season and kit
Wind: Watch out for the terral — a föhn-type northerly wind from the sierra, extremely hot and dry. It hits Málaga and the Guadalhorce valley, but often doesn't reach Rincón (10 km east). Terral in the forecast = ride east, or go high and early.
When to set off: Morning — the interior around Coín is hot at midday.
Season: Best in March–May and September–November. In September the share of muggy days drops from 43% (1 Sept) to 16% (30 Sept) — the end of the month is noticeably more pleasant. Summer is too hot for the inland climbs.
Gearing: At least 34×30.
Tyres: 28 mm.
Watch out for
- ⚠Getting out of west Málaga is longer and goes through a more built-up area (Alhaurín/Coín).
- ⚠There's no train to Marbella — the only bail-out is the bus.
