Bike prep

What to bring and how to prepare your bike.

A short checklist so you can ride as soon as you land. Box size, kit, chargers and what to take in your backpack for the plane.

Bike box

If you hand your bike over packed, we recommend a box of these dimensions:

Width
25 cm
Height
86 cm
Length
170 cm

A standard cardboard road-bike box — almost any bike shop will usually give you one. If your bike doesn't fit these dimensions, let us know beforehand and we'll sort it out before you start packing.

What to bring

  • Chargers and cables
Power meter, Garmin / bike computer, lights and the charger for electronic shifting (Shimano Di2 or SRAM AXS).
  • Pump or mini electric pump
A small hand pump is enough.
  • Two inner tubes and tyre levers
Even with tubeless tyres they're a useful back-up on the road. Pack a few patches too.
  • Basic set of Allen keys
A multi-tool or a set of Allen and Torx keys. If your bike is carbon, add a torque wrench.

Also worth packing

  • Pedals and a pedal spanner
Leave the pedals off and pack a pedal spanner so you can put the bike together yourself in Málaga.
  • Quick link and a spare derailleur hanger
Small things that can save the day on the road.
  • Chain lube or wax
    A small bottle is enough.
  • Photos of your bike before handover
Take a few shots of the whole bike and keep a note of the frame number. Useful for any claim.
  • Note your set-up
Measure and write down your saddle height and setback, or mark them with tape, so the bike fits exactly the same once it's reassembled.

In your backpack for the plane

  • Phone, charger and clothes for the journey. Your helmet, shoes and kit go in the box with your bike and stay with us at the base.
  • Documents and insurance. We can arrange insurance (in Czech) →

How to pack your bike

  • Wheels out, protect the brake pads
Remove the wheels and put pad spacers or a piece of cardboard in the disc brake calipers so the pads don't close up.
  • Let some air out
With the tyres partly deflated the bike is easier to pack and sits better in the box.
  • Protect the rear derailleur and fork
Wrap the rear derailleur in foam or take it off. Put spacers in the fork and rear dropouts.
  • Secure the bike in the box
The bike mustn't move in the box during transport. Fill the gaps with foam, cardboard or clothes, and strap the removed wheels and handlebar to the frame with cable ties.
